📝 Check Student Progress
We are a couple of weeks into the school year, and this is a great time to check grades, attendance, and missing assignments. Families can log in to the gradebook using the same credentials used to register students. Working together early helps students stay on track. #StudentSuccess #DCLAEagles

🤖 Coding in Action!

Students are putting their coding skills to the test! They created sequences of commands to make coding robots function and travel along a line. Along the way, students practiced problem-solving, logical thinking, and perseverance as they tested their code, identified errors, and made adjustments.

Learning to code is even more exciting when students can watch their work come to life! 💻🤖❤️💙

📚 Classroom Routines Matter

DCLA students are settling into classroom routines, expectations, and goals for the year. Consistent attendance, charged devices, completed assignments, and good communication help students start strong. Thank you for partnering with us!

ROUTINES
📅 Two Days a Month Add Up

Missing just two days of school each month can add up to nearly 10% of the school year. These absences can make it harder for students to keep up with learning, stay connected with classmates, and participate in important school experiences.

DCLA’s districtwide goal is 95% attendance. When students are healthy, arriving at school on time and attending all day helps us reach that goal.

If something is making regular attendance difficult for your child, please contact the school. We want to listen, work with your family, and help find solutions.

🦅 Every Eagle. Every Day. Together, we can reach 95%! ❤️🤍💙

📏 How tall can you build it? Before school, a group of students turned recess time into a fun building challenge! They worked together to see if they could build a tower taller than Mrs. Shipley while using as few connecting cubes as possible—and without letting it break! 😄 It took teamwork, problem-solving, balance, and plenty of determination. We love seeing students use their creativity and work together—even before the school day officially begins! ❤️🤍💙 #DCLAEagles #STEMFun #LearningThroughPlay #Teamwork

💻 Learning how connections work!

Students in Mr. Webster’s Fundamentals of Technology class used marshmallows and skewers to build models of computer networks. This hands-on activity helped students visualize how devices connect and communicate within a network.

🦅 Every Eagle. Every Day.

DCLA has set a districtwide goal of 95% attendance for the 2026–2027 school year!

If your family faces a challenge that makes regular attendance difficult, please contact the school. We want to work together and help.

🍎 Back-to-School Tip #10: Believe in Their Ability

As parents, grandparents, and caregivers, we all want our children to succeed. One of the most powerful things we can do is help them believe they can.

As the school year begins, your child may be excited, nervous, confident, uncertain, or a little bit of all of these. During those moments, your words matter.

❤️ "I believe in you."

❤️ "You can do hard things."

❤️ "I'm proud of you."

❤️ "You've got this."

Children do not need to be perfect. They do not need to have all the answers. They simply need caring adults who encourage them, support them, and remind them that mistakes are part of learning.

Sometimes confidence begins with borrowing ours until they find their own.

At DCLA, we believe in every student and the potential they bring to our classrooms each day.

Here's to a year filled with growth, learning, perseverance, and success!

❤️🤍💙 We believe in our Eagles!

🍎 Back-to-School Tip #9: Attendance Matters

The habits students develop early in the school year often carry throughout the year. One of the most important habits for success is showing up every day and arriving on time.

Regular attendance helps students:

📚 Stay on track academically

🤝 Build friendships and connections

🏫 Feel like they belong at school

😊 Develop confidence and routines

Even missing just a few days can make it harder for students to keep up with lessons, assignments, and classroom activities.

As we prepare for the first day of school, begin re-establishing school routines:

⏰ Set a consistent bedtime and wake-up time

🎒 Pack backpacks the night before

👕 Lay out clothes ahead of time

🚗 Plan your morning schedule

Every day counts, and every student matters.

At DCLA, we can't wait to see our Eagles in the classroom, ready to learn, grow, and succeed.

❤️🤍💙 Let's make attendance a priority from Day One!

🚗 Arrival Reminder

Please help us keep the school zone safe before and after school. Harrison Street in front of the high school is a one-way street during arrival and dismissal times. All students and parents should exit by traveling west. Thank you for driving slowly, watching for students, and showing patience as everyone settles into the school routine.

🍎 Back-to-School Tip #8: The First Few Days Can Be Hard

The first week of school is exciting, but it can also be exhausting.

Even students who love school may come home feeling tired, emotional, overwhelmed, or more irritable than usual. They are learning new routines, meeting new teachers, adjusting to schedules, and using a lot of mental energy throughout the day.

This is completely normal.

As your child adjusts, try to:

❤️ Give extra patience and grace

😴 Prioritize sleep and healthy routines

👂 Listen when they want to talk about their day

🍎 Provide healthy snacks and downtime after school

😊 Focus on effort and progress rather than perfection

Remember, adjustment takes time. Most students need several days—or even a few weeks—to fully settle into a new school year.

A tough day doesn't mean it's going to be a tough year.

At DCLA, our teachers and staff are committed to helping every student feel welcomed, supported, and successful.

❤️🤍💙 Together, we'll help our Eagles soar!

🍎 Back-to-School Tip #7: Focus on Connection

As the school year begins, one of the best things you can do for your child is simply connect with them.

In the busy rush of homework, practices, activities, and schedules, take a few minutes each day to slow down and talk.

Try asking:

💬 What was the best part of your day?

💬 What made you smile today?

💬 Did anything feel challenging?

💬 Is there anything you're looking forward to tomorrow?

Sometimes children don't need us to solve every problem. They simply need to know that someone is listening.

Strong connections at home help students feel safe, supported, and confident at school. When children know they have trusted adults who care about them, they are better equipped to handle challenges, build friendships, and learn from mistakes.

Remember, meaningful conversations don't have to be long. A few intentional minutes each day can make a big difference.

❤️ Put down the phone.

❤️ Listen more than you talk.

❤️ Be present.

❤️ Let your child know they matter.

At DCLA, we believe strong relationships help students thrive both in and out of the classroom.

❤️🤍💙 Together, we're helping our Eagles soar!

🍎 Back-to-School Tip #6: Limit Screen Time Before Bed

One of the best gifts you can give your child is a good night's sleep.

Phones, tablets, televisions, and video games can make it harder for children and teens to fall asleep and stay asleep. Even when they seem tired, screens can keep their brains active long after the device is turned off.

Try creating a screen-free hour before bedtime by encouraging activities such as:

📖 Reading a book

🛁 Taking a bath or shower

💬 Talking about the day

🎒 Getting backpacks ready for tomorrow

🌙 Relaxing and winding down

Well-rested students are more likely to:

✅ Focus and learn

✅ Manage emotions

✅ Follow directions

✅ Feel confident and prepared for school

Remember, the goal isn't perfection. Small changes can make a big difference.

One of the most powerful school supplies a child can bring on the first day isn't found in a backpack—it's a good night's sleep.

❤️ Screens can wait. Sleep can't.

❤️🤍💙 Together, we're helping our Eagles soar!
