Today our entire junior high and high school helped package 10,420 meals in just over an hour for STAMP OUT STARVATION! Stamp Out Starvation is a local, not for profit organization, that prepares and delivers meals to people in Haiti and other 3rd world countries. The FFA Officer team organized and made the financial contribution to pay for the meals we packed, and asked the school to help us complete our goal! Our students worked together and enjoyed their time learning about serving others.

Last night our Greenhand Contest participants finished their season at the regional contest in Garber! In the last month they have attended 5 contests, learned so much, improved their public speaking skills and met new people. The thing I am most proud of is how this 8th grade group worked TOGETHER, supported each other and were flexible with what they were willing to try so they could compete each time! Great job students!

Students in communities with high levels of poverty are 4 times more likely to be chronically absent—often for reasons beyond their control. Together, we can support families and ensure every child has the chance to succeed. #CommunitySupport #AttendanceMatters #EaglePride

🎓 The University of Central Oklahoma stopped by DCLA today!

UCO admissions counselors met with our 10th-, 11th-, and 12th-graders to share information about admissions, scholarships, campus life, and programs available at UCO.

It’s never too early to start planning for your future, and today’s visit was a great opportunity for our students to explore their college options and ask questions about the application process.

Research shows that missing just 10% of the school year—about 18 days—hurts academic performance. That’s only 2 days a month! Let’s commit to showing up every day, Eagles! #AttendanceMatters #EaglePride

Meet the Eagles
Where Are They Now? — Nate Moyer, Class of 1999

Nate Moyer, DCLA Class of 1999, looks back fondly on his time at Deer Creek-Lamont, where he was involved in football, basketball, cross country, band, and choir. He credits DCLA’s small-school environment and supportive faculty with giving him the chance to try everything—and even earn a college music scholarship that helped launch his path forward.

Nate earned his BSN from Bethel College in Newton, Kansas, in 2005 and became a registered nurse that same year. While working in Kansas, he met his wife, Sarah, and together they embarked on a journey that took them across several states—eventually landing in Montana in 2010 for what was intended to be a short-term travel nursing assignment. Fifteen years later, they’re still there.

In 2012, Nate was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS), and today he serves as a Lieutenant Commander. His career has included ER nursing, ER management, and now leadership in healthcare and disaster management on the Northern Cheyenne reservation in Lame Deer, Montana. When wildfires, blizzards, staffing shortages, or other emergencies strike, Nate is called upon to take charge—leading his team and community through crisis response and recovery.

He’s traveled across the country on deployments and training missions with the USPHS, and though the work hasn’t always been easy, he says:
“I wouldn’t change a thing.”

Outside of work, Nate and Sarah are raising three children: Naomi (a junior), Charlie (in 7th grade), and Joe (in 3rd grade). He values the power of public education and encourages DCLA students never to stop growing and learning:

“We are meant to grow and change throughout our lives. Let facts shape your opinions. Don’t be afraid of change—embrace it. It’s the only thing you can truly count on. Whether it is good or bad is ultimately up to you.”

Absenteeism in the first month can predict poor attendance the rest of the year. Students who attend regularly are more likely to read on grade level by the end of 3rd grade. Start strong—stay strong!

Good attendance is the key to success at every stage of life!
Elementary students who show up daily are more likely to read well by the end of 3rd grade. Middle schoolers stay on track in their courses, high schoolers stay on pace to graduate, college students earn their degrees, and workers succeed in their jobs.

Missing just 2 days a month (18 days a year) can knock students off track. Every day counts—let’s work together to make attendance a priority!
